An ascent to Mount Toloño from the San Ginés Park (1,271m) is a must, the most visited summit for its attractive landscape of changing colors, where history and legend go hand in hand. At the top, beautiful panoramic views await us, such as that of the Ebro, drawing with its meanders the natural border between Álava and La Rioja.
In its vicinity, it is worth stopping to observe the ruins of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Toloño and the refrigerators, circular holes dug in the ground that were once filled with snow for sale in nearby towns. You can also find other attractions such as the Humilladero hermitage, Peña las 12 or the castle.
Toloño has a magical influence on Labastida and once you get to the top you will understand. According to what they say, the name comes from a god, the god "Tolonium" and in addition to its beauty it shelters us from the cold winds that come from the north. In June, a pilgrimage is held organized by Labastida (and Salinillas), Peñacerrada and Rivas de Tereso, the municipalities to whom their lands "belong".
